An eight-match winning run came to an end at St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday as Southampton fought back to score points on the South Coast.

After the match, the manager was interviewed by the media and asked if he was dissatisfied with the result, asked about the penalty appeals in the first half and offered his opinion as to why the level of performance had declined.

Here are all the words from his post-match press conference…

As for whether he is unhappy…
No complaints. This is soccer. The first half was really good and we had full control of the game. We created a lot of big chances and didn’t miss them. In the Premier League, unfortunately, not doing it at the top can create some difficulties. In the second half, we had a lot of ball possessions and could not control the match. Their direct plays, long throws and set pieces disrupted the game. We tried to react, and I think we had two of our biggest chances in the second half, but we just couldn’t put them away.

About what he made out of our penalty cries…
Do not know. I don’t want to comment on that. I’d like to see a picture before that.

As for why the performance level dropped…
I think we stopped doing all the simple things right. We didn’t get the continuity we had in the first half because the ball was too far out and we gave too much simple ball without too much pressure in a very dangerous area. It’s more tiring because the game is more open, there are more transitions, and it’s exhausting. . It was the result of one thing after another, and we couldn’t stop it any time soon.

About Gabriel Jesus…
He had a chance to put them away so today he will be disappointed. , he can. But he has his chances and he’s always there. He gave the team a lot and it’s a shame he couldn’t finish it today.

About squad depth…
Same as 1 month ago, 2 days ago, next week. I don’t like making excuses. We could have played better in the second half and could have won more comfortably. It’s entirely up to us. I think the team looked very fresh at first. I’ve worked it down more into how we play. We could have played better in the second half.

On the eight players who will start every Premier League game this season…
That means you are not playing any other games. Initially, I think the team seemed really fresh. () The second half and the last few minutes are more the way we play – I put them there. We could have played better in the second half.

On why we have historically played Southampton away…
It’s very difficult to win in the Premier League, at home or away.
