Frazier finished the regular season undefeated and secured the second seed in the WPIAL Class A Girls Volleyball Championship Tournament.
The Commodores (18-0) will host Trinity Christian (8-8) in the first round on Tuesday at 7pm.
The championship game is scheduled for November 5 at 1:30 pm at the UPMC Event Center on the campus of Robert Morris University. The top three finishers from the district competition will qualify for the state.
Frazier has made it to the postseason 25 times in a row.
“These girls are expected because of their past successes in the program, but they’re in a good place and they’re a special group,” said Frazier coach Mandy Hartman. We all grew up playing volleyball. When we were at camp before the season, I welcomed my daughter, Jensing, who will be in fourth grade this year.On Monday, after I had her attend a practice game, I picked up Jensing. These girls have been into volleyball their whole lives and love the game.”
Hartman has never led the Commodores in a season without a postseason appearance. Frazier is aiming for his second WPIAL Championship after winning in 2010. The Commodores are runners-up under Hartman.
Hartman knows her team can’t afford to miss the Falcons, despite being the number two seed behind Serra Catholic.
“It’s a lot easier to play as underdogs, but the girls know they have a lot of expectations of them,” Hartman said. I’m happy with the seed we got.Serra is a solid team. They were in class 2A with us last year.Class 2A had a lot of girls who played last year It helped me prepare for this season.”
Hartman said the Frazier community is “thrilled to host” Tuesday’s game.
“It’s really nice for the seniors to play their last game on their home court,” Hartman said.
Southmoreland (13-6) take to the court Monday against Hopewell (8-8) in the class 2A qualifier that starts at 7:30 at Peters Township High School. It will be held at Robert Morris at 3:30. The top four teams in Class 2A will qualify for the state competition.
The Scotty-Vikings winner will face No. 2-seeded Chenango on Wednesday at TBD location and time.
Dan Boring stepped in to coach Southmoreland before the season started despite not having much volleyball coaching experience, but Scotty’s athletic director was proud the team made the playoffs. I am thinking.
“It’s always good to make the playoffs,” said Boring, who is also the school’s wrestling coach. “After a really strong start to the season, he was able to finish second in the section. There was a bit of a lull after losing a couple of games, but we ended the season strong. “
Boring hasn’t had a chance to see what Hopewell has in store, but he’ll use the weekend to find out as much as he can and provide the team with a scout report.
“I put all the information on my social media pages and practiced after school,” Boring said. “In my experience as a wrestling coach, I am an avid researcher and will consider the possibility of anything we can use to win Monday’s match. Peters before making the trip to his township. to do a quick walkthrough.”
Volleyball doesn’t always attract media attention for sports like soccer or basketball.Bowling said the playoff atmosphere is great for his team to attract attention to individuals who might not normally attend a volleyball match. I believe it will be an experience.
“The playoffs are a showcase and you always want to show up and do your best,” Bowling said. I would like to show it to other areas of the district.
