Little Sims has won the 2022 Mercury Prize.
The 28-year-old musician’s album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert was named winner of this year’s awards ceremony at Hammersmith’s Eventim Apollo, beating out Sam Fender, Harry Styles, Wet Legs and more. rice field. Hosted by Lauren Laverne on Tuesday (18.10.22) evening in London.
Simz was announced as the winner by Jamz Supernova, presented with a trophy and a £25,000 check before the night’s celebrations came to a close.
When she took the stage, she was at first speechless, but said, “Wow, I’m so overwhelmed and I’m so grateful.
“Glory to God. Thank God. My family here, my loved ones here.
“I would like to sincerely thank Mercury for this incredible award. I would like to thank my brother and close collaborator Inflo – Flo. [has] Knowing me since I was little, he was obsessed with me and we made this album together.
“There were times in the studio when I wasn’t sure if I could finish this record. I was going through every emotion…he stuck with me.”
She then praised the other candidates.
She added: “You guys are amazing. We’ve all made great albums. We’ve all changed people’s lives with our music. That’s the most important thing. So this is really about us.” Because you know what I’m talking about?”
This record was chosen because it was “achievable, complex yet fully accessible”.
The jury said: Win the 2022 Mercury Prize “Album of the Year” award now for FREE.
“In the end, the judges were so impressed with Little Sims’ Sometime I Might Be Introverted that it was so accomplished, complex yet completely accessible that everyone could agree. A possible album is the work of someone who is always striving to push themselves.

11 of the 12 finalists included Fergus McCready, Gwenno, Jesse Buckley, Bernard Butler, Joy Crooks, Kojay Radical, Nova Twins, Self Esteem and Yard Act. A person performed live music at the ceremony and a filmed performance was screened. He’s currently in the US on tour, so we’re celebrating Harry’s nomination.
The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place on September 8th, but was postponed due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth.
