Barbara A. Lofton, assistant dean of the Sam M. Walton College of Business, serves on the Joint Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Business Schools and serves as co-ambassador for the conference.
Barbara Lofton, Vice Chancellor of the Dr. Barbara A. Lofton Office of Diversity & Inclusion at Sam M. Walton College of Business, is credited with promoting diversity and inclusion at Walton College in many aspects of minority students, faculty and staff. Most well known. Today, she is casting a broader net by helping develop national organizations and expanding her influence by joining the Board of Business School Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Cooperation.
Lofton seeks to “promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging to higher education by supporting professional development, influencing curricula, and contributing to research and services in the DEI field.” Serving as Conference Co-Ambassador for the Planned Business Schools DEI Joint Committee. at business schools nationwide.
Lofton is no stranger to promoting diversity and inclusion at U of A and other schools through the Southeastern Conference. She has been Director of Diversity Office at Walton College since her 1996. The office was founded in 1994 by her, making it the oldest diversity office at the SEC’s business school. As such, Lofton has visited other her SEC business schools to encourage and train other business colleges and advise them on how to implement diversity and inclusion strategies on campus.
Walton College Dean Matt Waller said: “She brings her expertise, talent and most of all her passion to provide a level playing field in school and beyond.”
“We hope other higher education institutions will take this bold step to make diversity and inclusion a major part of their organizations and accreditation bodies,” said Lofton. “While some organizations and accreditation bodies have diversity and inclusivity as part of their structure, the incorporation of such requirements is a positive step forward in this area by higher education institutions. It will bring good results.”
The Business School DEI Collaborative’s mission is to “convene conferences to discuss best practices and programs, issue awards, and serve as a resource for educators and business people to promote diversity, equity, and excellence in higher education. It’s about promoting inclusivity, belonging. An underrepresented group.”
