Week 6 of the NFL was as unpredictable as ever, with guard changes seemingly looming in the league. Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers are below .500 late in the season for the first time since 2012, and the New York team combined is 9-3.
The Giants are 5-1 for the first time since 2009, but the Jets are off to their best start to the season since 2015. The Jets match last season’s winning streak, and the Giants have surpassed it with just his six games. The Packers were on a regular losing streak in his season for the first time in four years, and suffered their worst ever loss under Rodgers at Lambeau Field.
Heading into Week 6, expect a lot of overreaction. Let’s see if these are taken for granted or if they need to be tweaked a bit.
Bills gain homefield advantage in AFC playoffs
Overreaction or reality: reality
Sunday’s win over the Chiefs wasn’t huge in determining the Super Bowl favorites coming out of the AFC, but the road to the Super Bowl will likely go through Buffalo. The Bills beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, and for the second straight game he won by one point, the Super Bowl contender hex was gone.
Buffalo is the only team in the conference to lose one, winning a 1-1 tiebreaker at Kansas City. The Bills are the clear favorites in the AFC East, two games behind the Dolphins and one game behind the upstart Jets. They also beat the Ravens earlier this year (and Baltimore went 3-3 in 6 games).
The AFC’s road to the Super Bowl appears to pass through Orchard Park in January. That’s a scary thought.
Injuries cost 49ers out of playoff berth
Overreaction or reality: overreaction
This is the 49ers’ biggest problem. How many injuries can this team survive? In the San Francisco defense, Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw were injury-free Sunday against the Falcons and were the only starters not to suffer pregame injuries. is.
Charvarius Ward left the game with a groin injury. Talanoa Hufanga had to undergo a concussion evaluation (but returned), and Samson Ebkam was sidelined with a leg injury (he also returned). Moseley, Jimmy Ward and Aziz Al-Shaea missed the match with various injuries.
The 49ers’ defense couldn’t get over the injury in the loss to the Falcons, but the team has the depth to withstand it (and has spent most of the year). San Francisco will eventually get some of these players back and make a run in the NFC West.
Overreaction or reality: reality
Zappe has made two starts for the Patriots, averaging 33.5 points per game and 381.5 yards per game for New England. They are also 2-0 in two starts under Zappe. The fourth-round rookie went 24 of 34 for 309 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions Sunday against the Browns.
Not only did the Patriots throw for 301 yards, they were 7-of-14 on third downs and 2-of-3 in goal-to-go situations. This season, Zappe has scored 1 interception for his 4 touchdowns, and his passer rating is 111.4 with him shooting 72.9%. He is the first rookie quarterback to post over 100 passers in each of his two starts, the first during the Super Bowl era.
Bottom line: Zappe has (at least) done more than enough to make a fresh start. The Patriots’ offense is better than him at quarterback.
Jets playoff threat
Overreaction or reality: reality
New York, 4–2, gave Green Bay their biggest loss at Lambeau Field under Aaron Rodgers. Breece Hall already looks like he’s one of the most explosive players in the NFL. The defense shines with DJ Reed, Sauce Gardner, and Quinnen Williams leading the way.
The Jets look like a playoff team, beating their opponents in different ways every week. Offensively, his line protected Zach Wilson well, and the defense continues to improve, with him falling below 300 yards for the third straight week.
If the AFC had to pick seven teams to make the playoffs, the Jets would be one.
A wide receiver for the Colts is enough to make the playoffs.
Overreaction or reality: reality
Indianapolis had a great game from wide receivers against Jacksonville on Sunday. Michael Pittman finished with a 134-yard lead on 13 catches, but the biggest contribution came from rookie Alec Pearce. The second-round pick caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Matt Ryan to lead the Colts to 3-2-1 with 17 seconds remaining, and contributed significantly to the offense for the fourth straight week.
Paris Campbell also had seven catches for 57 yards and one touchdown. Ryan’s chemistry has grown with his wideout as he has rushed for 996 yards and scored five touchdowns in the past three weeks. The Colts may not need to add another wide receiver before the trade deadline if Sunday’s game carries over.
Pitman, Pierce and Campbell are enough.

Vikings are Super Bowl contenders
Overreaction or reality: overreaction
Especially with the Vikings building a commanding lead in the NFC North, it’s hard not to vote for a 5-1 start. Minnesota is one of only three 5-win teams in the NFC and four 5-win teams in the NFL overall. The Vikings lost to the Eagles, but that was over a month ago. They haven’t lost since.
Minnesota definitely took advantage of Miami’s mistake as Jalen Waddle’s bobble ball led to a Harrison Smith interception and eventual field goal. Waddle’s fumble after a long delayed catch led to another turnover for Miami – taking more potential points off the board in a 17-16 game, with the Vikings coming off Waddle’s mistake he got 10 points.
The Vikings are a good team, albeit a mediocre division. They’re not in the Super Bowl contenders yet.
Saints need to commit more to run game
Overreaction or reality: reality
What the Saints can do on the ground against the Bengals was impressive. New Orleans rushed for 228 yards and averaged 6.7 yards per carry against the Bengals defense. The Bengals’ defense allowed him 99.6 rushing yards per game and only one rushing touchdown for him in a year.
The game plan would have been easier for the Bengals’ defense without the top three wide receivers. A healthy Alvin Kamara ran for 99 yards, Mark Ingram on the ground he added 46 yards and Tatham Hill gained his 39 yards.
Offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. needs to focus less on passing and more on runs, even with the return of playmaking pass catchers. The Saints are his team running better than they thought.
Brian Dabor is Coach of the Year
Overreaction or reality: reality
The Giants are 5-1 and already have more wins than last year. A healthy Saquon Barkley helps, but New York is outmatched by Daniel Jones and a subpar offensive line. Beating the Ravens is another great win for him for his team of upstart Giants who are starting to believe they are more than just a Cinderella story.
It’s the first time since 2009 that the Giants started at least 5-1 in the Super Bowl era. Dabor is the first Giants coach to start his career with a 5-1 record since Ally Sherman in 1961. Jones has a drive in which he won four games as New York scored one and he is 5-1 in games.
Daboll may be more than just Coach of the Year. He may be his one of the best players in the league.
Mike Tomlin is still one of the league’s top five coaches
Overreaction or reality: reality
There’s a reason Tomlin hasn’t lost a single game in his 15 seasons as head coach. Because of Sunday-like upsets against the Buccaneers. Tomlin lost starting quarterback Kenny Pickett (with a concussion), but Mitchell Trubisky found a way to record a 142.4 passer rating against the Buccaneers defense.
The Steelers’ secondary was without top-three cornerbacks and Minka Fitzpatrick, but held Tom Brady to just one passing touchdown. The Buccaneers also went 4-of-14 on third down and 1-of-4 on the red zone.
Pittsburgh edged out Tampa Bay after being blown away by Buffalo last week. That’s all Tomlin.
Cliff Kingsbury’s days in Arizona are numbered
Overreaction or reality: overreaction
Kingsbury are nowhere near dismissed yet, but something needs to be done in response to this attack. With his 2-4 record, the Cardinals were at the bottom of the NFC West, and after just 3 points and 142 yards in the first half, the Cardinals had another slow start. Arizona even had a stretch with 10 plays for 11 yards.
The Cardinals had just 9 points against the 31st scoring defenseman in the league and only 315 yards per game allowed against the 32nd-ranking defenseman. This is unacceptable for a team that has Kyler his Murray. He struggled after scoring 22 of 37 for 222 yards in an interception.
Kingsbury’s hot seat is getting hotter, but he needs time to cool it down.
Cooper Cup is the NFL’s best receiver
Overreaction or reality: reality
With no disrespect to Justin Jefferson, Kupp continues to produce week after week behind the still-out-of-sync offense. The cup ended with 7 catches for 80 yards, 56 catches for 607 yards and 4 touchdowns for the year to lead the Rams in Sunday’s victory over the Panthers.
With Allen Robinson starting to show some producing flair, Kupp is still tasked with carrying his only wide group of receivers in six games. It has achieved, and this would set an NFL record.
The only 2,000-yard receiver (regular season and postseason) in league history, Kupp still deserves recognition as the best pass catcher in the game. He now carries the Rams.
