Nick Todaro and Terrell Cunningham Earn Bills-ADPRO Sports High School Coach of the Week Honors

The Buffalo Bills and ADPRO Sports are proud to once again partner to recognize the best coaches Western New York has to offer through the 2022 High School Football Coaches of the Week program.

Bills and ADPRO Sports will present a Coach of the Week award to the national team’s head tackle football coach, highlighting not only the team’s achievements on the field, but also some of the work they do off the field in their communities. Both regions’ Coaches of the Year will be elected during the January 2023 game between the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots at Highmark Stadium.

Each Coach of the Week winner will receive a $1,000 grant from the Buffalo Bills and ADPRO Sports. Each Coach of the Year winner will receive an additional $1,000 towards the program. The winner will be chosen by a panel of local high school football experts.

Buffalo Regional Coach of the Week # 7

Maryvale head coach Nick Todaro was named Buffalo Regional Coach of the Week for Week 7 after leading the Flyers to a 35-19 victory over Olean last week. Maryvale won his season title as a regular in the B-2 division. This is the school’s first full division title since 2006. The Flyers are now 7-0 on the season.

After a scoreless first quarter, Maryvale scored first when Dalton Harper ran 20 yards for a TD and a 7–0 lead. After Olean pulled within 7-6 of him, Maryvale scored his two goals to extend his lead to 21-6. Justus Hill ran 31 yards for the TD before Will Schiller threw a 25-yard TD pass to Hunter Murphy.

Maryvale led 21-12 at the half, but Olean scored early in the third quarter to pull within 21-19. Maryvale recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff before Schiller scored another TD and he hit Murphy for a 35-19 lead.

Justus Hill led the ground game for Maryvale with 148 yards and a TD on 15 rushes. Dalton Harper had his 11 runs for 78 yards and a TD. William Shiller completed 6 of 8 passes for 70 yards and he had 2 TDs. Hunter Murphy caught 3 passes and he had 62 yards and 2 TDs. Noah Arby and Jacksin Moritz each intercepted a pass. Ryan Benson led the defense with seven tackles.

Todaro is in his third season as Maryvale’s head coach. He was hired in person in February 2020 and by phone two months later.

“The world shut down,” said Ro Toda. “For the first few months everything was virtual. I did Zoom Meets with all the kids. .”

Last season, Ro Toda led Maryvale to a 5-4 record and a playoff spot. Todaro was at Hutch Tech where he was an assistant coach for three seasons, and for the 2019 NYS Championship he joined Canisius’ staff. He also served as head coach at St. Mary’s for one season.

Todaro players are active in community service and are currently raising money for the PUNT Foundation, an organization that helps families battling childhood cancer in WNY.

Todaro has taught physical education in Buffalo public schools for 15 years.

Rochester Area Coach of the Week # 7

Monroe High School coach Terrell Cunningham was named Rochester Coach of the Week for Week 7 after suffering his first loss of the season in a 26-7 win over the No. 8 Class B team (HFL). I was.

The defense, coordinated by manager Cunningham, completed the HFL by forcing three interceptions, three fumbles and limiting them to under 7 yards.

Coach Cunningham has been coaching at Monroe since 2017 and is in his second season as head coach.

The head coach has had a football career of his own.The 2007 John Marshall High School grad won a section championship with John Marshall as team captain in 2006 and was named an Eddie Meath All-Star. His football career continued at his Utica College where he captained his football team and graduated in 2011.

Off the field, Coach Cunningham is the schoolhouse sub. He covers different classes every day and also assists school administrators. Cunningham also actively promotes the Monroe SMART program to connect student-athletes to the importance of academics.

To make sure academics are a top priority, Coach Cunningham has initiated weekly performance checks for all student-athletes in his football program who have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. In addition, he personally visits teachers in each classroom and acts as a direct link between teachers and families.

As for the youth community, Coach Cunningham has partnerships with several community organizations, including youth football programs and off-season training organizations. In his spare time, he trains and coaches youth football players throughout Section V during the off-season.

Coach Cunningham regularly emphasizes the importance of mental health. In doing so, he held regular meetings and mentoring sessions with the team, connecting each player with school-based counselors and mentoring his support.
