Owasso beat Edmund Memorial 37-14

Owasso — The Owasso Rams enjoyed a miss at the Edmund Memorial throughout Friday evening, reaching .500 on the season with a 37-14 victory to give Owasso (4-4, 3-2) a third straight win.

The Bulldogs (4-4, 3-2) gave the Rams a first down early in the game, setting them at the 11-yard line. Senior quarterback Mason Willingham opened the scoring for the Rams with an 8-yard keeper.

Edmund Memorial sophomore quarterback David McComb responded with a 19-yard touchdown pass to senior tight end Tanner Wolfe with 4:35 left in the first quarter to tie the game at 7-7.

On the 2nd and 7th, the Bulldogs’ defense gave Willingham a 2-yard loss at the 11-yard line that eventually led to a down turnover.

However, Owasso’s sophomore corner Riker Ogg erased any momentum the stop might have given Edmund Memorial and picked McComb to give Owasso the ball at the 4-yard line. Willingham scored quickly on the quarterback keeper and the Rams regained the lead at 14–7.

Rams head coach Bill Blankenship praised the quarterback’s dual-threat ability after the game.

“I think Mason is great. He lets us go,” said Blankenship. “If there’s a better double-threat guy, I’ve never met him, but I’m glad he’s our guy.”

After the teams traded possessions on a series of punts, the Bulldogs got on the board again when McComb hit senior wide receiver Markelle Johnson for a 3-yard touchdown pass to tie at 14.

In the next series, Willingham hit a 29-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Anthony Hills to take a 21-14 lead with 42 left in the second quarter.

Willingham also celebrated the Rams’ winning streak.

“The beginning of the year didn’t go as planned, but we were able to win all these games in a row and now I feel good. We are celebrating as a team and getting better every week. ‘, said Willingham.

The Bulldogs threatened to close the deficit before halftime, running back Kiefer Mullins interrupted a 27-yard run, and the Rams were called for a pass interference penalty. It set up a 46-yard field goal attempt, but it was blocked and the Rams led 21-14 at halftime.

The Bulldogs’ momentum never returned. Edmund his Memorial offense was thwarted by his three penalties on his kick just after the start of the second half, and he eventually turned the game around on a down from the 41-yard line.

After Owasso’s punt, the Bulldogs took over their own 25-yard line, but it was closed. Owasso’s blocked punt resulted in the Rams leading 23-for-14 with him 2:47 left in the third quarter.

They bridged that lead when Tarik Johnson went for a 19-yard touchdown in the final minute of the third quarter to move the margin to 30-14.

Edmund lost McComb for the rest of the game when he went down after a 6-yard gain. He was rescued from the field and medical staff examined him for symptoms of concussion. Johnson and Kieran Pedula divided quarterback duties for the Bulldogs to close out the game.

As the Rams tried to chew the clock, Willingham interrupted a 32-yard touchdown run with 2:42 left in the game to increase the lead to 37–14.

Hills has spoken out about the Rams’ winning streak after a tough start to the season.

“It was very difficult for us, but we were able to continue to be coached by Coach B,” Hills said. “We’re getting hot and we’re pulling off a tough game really well. So if we keep improving, I think we can win it all.”
