Soccer ends losing streak with home draw with Ducks – The Daily Evergreen

It was the first of a three-game streak at home for the Coogs.

WSU Soccer (8-3-3) remained unbeaten at home on Friday as they drew 1-1 with the Oregon Ducks.

This was the second draw with the Ducks in their last three matchups, the other being won by WSU.

Cougs currently has a conference record of 2-2-2 and is fifth in the Pac-12. Oregon State finished the tiebreaker with a conference record of 2-3-1, placing him in 10th place.

WSU had a total of 27 shots in the game, with 11 on target and a goal. Oregon had seven shots on two targets to score the lone goal.

‘There were a lot of opportunities there,’ said the head coach Todd Schulenberger post game.

Oregon goaltender Leah Freeman had 10 saves in the game, bringing his total saves to 87 this season, ranking first in the Pac-12 and 14th in the nation. WSU goalkeeper Nadia Cooper made one save in the match, taking him to 29 in total this season, placing him 11th in the conference.

The first half saw Cougs quickly at the defensive end as Oregon State created some early chances. In the 10th minute, Trinity Morales scored his second goal of the season with a shot saved by Cooper, but scored the rebounding goal to put Oregon up 1–0.

After the goal, WSU continued to attack, making 10 shots with seven targeted, all saved by Freeman.

Oregon had only four shots in the first half, but had two quality shots from inside the six-yard box that led to Morales’ only goal.

The second half saw WSU really take control on the attacking side. They had 17 shots, but only four were on target.

In the 53rd minute, WSU forward Margie Detrizio scored his eighth goal of the season after scrambling inside the Oregon box early in the second half before deflecting the ball into the net to tie it 1–1. . De Trizio’s eight goals this season rank him sixth in the Pac-12, tied for his 45th nationally.

“I didn’t start her tonight. She came in and responded, so that was good,” Schulenberger said.

After the goal, WSU had an opportunity to create more chances and get the game-winning goal, but it didn’t look clinical enough to get past Freeman’s stellar goalkeeper for the Ducks.

In total, WSU took 10 corner kicks, but Oregon had just one. The only yellow card in the game came from Lindsay Turner for the Ducks in the 77th minute.

The 27 shots from WSU brought their season total to 274, second in the conference. The 13 goals the WSU allowed in the season are fifth best in the Pac-12. His 30 saves this season in WSU ranks 11th in the Pac-12, while Washington is last in the Pac-12 with 28 saves.

With two home games over the weekend, Cougs next takes to the field on Thursday. Their first game kicks off at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Lower Soccer Field against the Sun Devils of Arizona. Then Cougs wraps up the weekend as he hosts the Arizona Wildcats on Sunday.
