The Homecoming Tailgate hosted by the Alumni Association on Monday evening from 5pm to 7pm was a success and no words were needed to recognize it.
The smiles and sheer joy on the faces of the students and faculty made this event a year in the making.
The ConocoPhillips Alumni Center had friendships formed, free food and drink, and cornhole competition was serious.
The event has become an annual event due to the continued family and community sentiment it brings. Homecoming is all about excitement, with students of all ages, majors and personalities coming together to celebrate the Cowboys, have the opportunity to meet new people.
Many students either did not know this event existed at all, or only heard a little about it and never went or even knew about it in the first place. Considering the year, it was more difficult.
This year was not at all. People who have never been there wanted to go. There’s nothing better than a tailgate, especially one away from the newly-found autumn chill, an abundance of free food and snacks, and new faces to find yourself in conversation.
“My family is orange-stained, so I’ve been coming here since I was a kid,” said Libby G., a third-grader at OSU. When he entered college, he wanted to gain experience as a student, so it’s a great honor and very cool to help him with that. “
Many students also helped in various ways. Among these are handing out raffle tickets to students as they enter, telling them where to put their tickets once they are full, and making sure the bounce house is upright and everyone is safe. , taking pictures for people, helping in many ways. I wanted to pose in front of a photo booth and be a cornhole partner if needed.
Among the students enjoying free meals and having fun with friends were OSU royalty, including Miss OSU, the Homecoming Queen and King, and the rest of the Homecoming candidates and their escorts. They are all incredibly energetic and I feel honored to represent OSU and interact with such a diverse group of students.
Senior Homecoming Queen Mia Rucker is president of the Chi Omega sorority and participates in a campus club called Inspiring Health Professionals.
“It’s my first time here and it’s a lot of fun,” Rucker said. A great start to the week. I definitely played cornhole and won. ”
Corrine Kissel, a junior homecoming candidate, said the experience was “incredibly humbling”. “I’m so happy to share my love for college,” he said.
It was simply a goal for students to interact with other students and it was all well executed. Pistol Her Pete also joined the party and performed some wild dance moves at Bounce Her House. The Alumni Association has chosen one welcoming event to pave the way for a great Homecoming week.
