Being a manager in the English Premier League is already daunting, but maintaining that role is another level.
The intensity and stakes of every game are immense, and a spell in bad shape can put a manager’s job and team in the feared relegation zone.
Four managers have already been sacked after a disappointing start to pre-season after just 11 games.
Let’s see who they are and who they could be next.
Which EPL managers were fired in 2022-23?
Steven Gerrard became the latest player to be sacked after Aston Villa lost 3-0 to Fulham on Thursday. But he wasn’t the first. Let’s see his EPL manager fired from 2022 to 2023.
Scott Parker, Bournemouth
Bournemouth sacked Parker on 30 August shortly after a 9–0 defeat to Liverpool at half-time. As one of the teams freshly promoted from the EFL Championship to England’s top league, Parker said the board had released more money to sign more quality players to survive the league. Gary O’Neill is the current interim coach and the team is in good form, but whether it’s just a temporary patch or a promising building. Time will tell if it’s a block or not.
Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea
Looking at his preseason form, an educated guess would have led to this result. After leading Chelsea to the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League title, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup in one season, Tuchel made his UCL debut at Dinamo after he lost 1-0 to Zagreb. He was dismissed on September 7th.after spending $310 million In a transfer last summer, Tuchel’s tactics did not have the same effect. He was leaky too often despite using two wingbacks. Chelsea hired Brighton & Hove Albion’s Graham Potter as a full-time replacement, but it was an ominous decision to spend that amount of money to support the manager and move on within a week.
Bruno Large, Wolverhampton Wanderers
About a month later came the Rage of Wolves, who were sacked on 2 October after losing 2-0 to West Ham. The Wolves were expected to contend for another top 10 spot, but lacking his ball-hitting quality ninth and clinical winger, Red to stay above his zone. was (and still is) fighting for. Steve Davis is interim, and former manager Nuno Santos could return.
Steven Gerrard, Aston Villa
Like Wolves, Aston Villa were expected to target a top ten finish following several transfer window recruitments in recent years. But Gerrard’s mediocre tactics, player positioning and captain’s decisions have left a squad of Philippe Coutinho, Emiliano Buendía, Boubacar Camara, Jacob Ramsey and Leon Bailey fighting to stay at Prem. This campaign should have been the best in years, so the next thing for Villains is to find a quality replacement.
Which EPL manager could be fired next in 2022-23?
These managers face a hot-seat spell if the outcome doesn’t turn out in their favour.
Brendan Rodgers, Leicester City: Leicester, who are expected to finish in the top six, have just won two of their 11 games and are on pace to be relegated if the trend continues.
Frank Lampard, Everton: After narrowly avoiding relegation last year, Everton are also just two out of 11 wins and don’t always have quality over weight. sheet may start to burn.
David Moyes, West Ham: Moyes and West Ham $200 million As for the summer new signings, they only have 11 with 3 wins to show for it. It’s likely just an adaptation period for the team to take hold, but with a non-top-6 board splashing so much cash you’d expect results rather than a bottom-10 finish.
Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool: Liverpool couldn’t do it, right? That’s what we were thinking about Tuchel and Chelsea – until it happened. However, the Reds did not perform at their best every season, with the infamous “Cropp’s CurseKlopp’s team largely struggled in his seventh season at the helm and would eventually leave. Liverpool’s victory over Manchester City might be the big morale boost they needed as their quality is undeniable, but it also risks missing out on a top four finish and his UCL spot.
