Towson, Maryland — The Elon women’s soccer team posed a threat in the second half, but were unable to find a match-winning goal as Phoenix and Towson faced a goalless draw on Sunday in both teams’ regular-season finale.
Elon finishes the regular season with a 9-5-3 overall record and a 5-3-1 mark in CAA play. Phoenix will be the No. 4 seed in the CAA Championship and will face the No. 5-seeded Tigers (11-2-5, 4-1-4) in the first round on Thursday.

- Towson was strong and dominated possession, beating Elon 7-0 in the first 20 minutes. His two best scoring chances for the Tigers came on his two shots in the first, McKenna Dalphonso An excellent diving save from Phoebe Canorez’s 3rd minute strike and Demi Pierre’s 5th minute header deflected to the right post.
- Phoenix had the third-highest work rate among attackers in the final 15 minutes of the first half, 40th- Isa Murdoch A free kick was scored just outside the left edge of the penalty box. Abby Huska Feed and Towson cleared the ball.
- With 40 seconds remaining in the first half, Darfonso ended the match with an apparent injury. However, the goalkeeper returned to the pitch in the second half.
- After halftime, the Tigers had five quick shots, including Canores’ shot over the crossbar in the 55th minute. About a minute later, Nia Christopher (CAA’s top goalscorer for him) got around behind the Phoenix defense and fired a shot at a charging Darfonso. However, the attempt bounced off the top of the crossbar.
- These look dangerous, but Elon has amassed a few of his own in the last half hour. In the 65th, Fusca chased a chip pass. Kennedy Jones Inside the box, she beat goalkeeper Riley Melendez, but Melendez somehow deflected the shot with her foot. Then, in the 88th inning, Huska sent a cross into the box. Ashley Bregio biased towards Jessica Callieri For what looked like the game’s first goal. But Elon was called offside.

- Earon recorded his eighth shutout of the season, the most since he recorded eight in 2015.
- Darfonso’s six saves were his best of the season and the most since he made six against Hofstra on October 24, 2021.
- Towson beat Elon 19-5 and kept the lead 7-1 with a corner kick.
- Molly Mahoney led Phoenix by three shots, tying his last six career-high sets.
CAA Championship Seeds
Both teams finished CAA play with 16 points, fourth in the league, as Elon and Towson fought to a draw. Phoenix earned the No. 4 seed in the CAA Championship with a win over his champion Monmouth in the regular season and will be his designated home team in Thursday’s game.
