Ball State secure MAC tournament spot with draw with Buffalo

Muncie, Indiana – The Ball State football team returned to the friendly confines of the Brynner Sports Complex at the end of the regular season when the Buffaloes made a trip to Muncie. The draw moves Ball State to 6-4-7 overall, 5-1-4 in MAC play, and Buffalo to 12-1-4 overall, 6-0-4 in conference action. The Cardinals became his second team all season and the first team in the MAC to score two goals against a stout Bull defense. BSU has secured a spot in the MAC tournament.

We still have a lot to play in our final game, so we need to be ready to fight and hopefully position ourselves well for the conference tournament.

Buffalo started the match strongly and managed to grab two corner kicks in the first nine minutes of the match. Ball State’s backline withstood the challenge and prevented shots.

The Cardinals’ first scoring chance came from a corner kick in the 17th minute. Lexi Smith I scored a corner kick and sent a beautiful ball into the box. Smith’s corner went right towards the back post, allowing Roper to use his height advantage to head the ball into the back of the net. BSU leads 1-0.

The Bulls scored their first shot on goal in the 19th minute, but Bethany Moser I was there to save.

Andrea Judas tied the match in the 38th minute with a header from a cross from Jasmine Gelber to send the match to a break that tied the game at 1–1.

The Bulls found the net just four minutes into the second half when Gelber deflected a pass from Leah Wengender.

The Cardinals didn’t budge and kept fighting and trying to find an equalizer. In the 73rd minute, BSU saw their first two chances and tied the game. The first was Caldwell’s shot saved by a Buffalo defender who scored the team save. A few seconds later, Maya Milis A shot on goal was saved by the Bulls keeper.

At 78 minutes, Abby Elgart sent a well-placed cross into the box in front of Buffalo’s goal. Caldwell was on the receiving end of the cross and was able to chip it over the keeper’s head and into the back of the net to equalize.

The Cardinals finished the game with all six shots on target. Moser scored seven saves in the match, extending his season total to 66.

Ball State will end the regular season with a trip to Mount Pleasant, Michigan, to face Central Michigan. First Touch is scheduled for Thursday, October 27th at 4pm.
