FC Tucson closed out the season with another draw with forward Madison FC.

FC Tucson (8-14-8) tied forward Madison FC (7-11-12) 1-1 at home on Saturday night.

“I think this season shows a missed opportunity,” said FC Tucson head coach John Perlman.

FC Tucson drew 1-1 with Madison in the league home opener on April 16 and lost 2-1 away to the Flamingos on June 4.

Forward Madison forward Mateus Cassini scored in the 29th minute after falling behind the defense.

“I thought the goal was just a moment of poor organization,” Perlman said.

FC Tucson midfielder Joao Delgado scored the equalizer for FC Tucson in the 46th minute.

Perlman said he made the playoffs last year thanks to Delgado, but was limited to 10 appearances and five starts this season.

“Joan was frustrating for him because he had to get to the level of fitness to start and get playing time, but he passed the ball and scored and what he produced. I could see how cool he was in that moment,” Perlman said. “Joan is in his 10th in the top eight in this league when he’s fit and healthy, and it’s been proven time and time again.”

Despite three weather delays in the last four games, Saturday’s game went according to plan. Around Southern Arizona he had 1,388 attendees after a day of heavy weather.

“It speaks to a lot of the Tucson community that we’ve come to a game where we’re in a wise position when it comes to football, but they really have a lot of respect for these players and what we have for so many people. I wanted to see the frustration that was going on…a game without fans,” Perlman said.

Saturday’s game was Fan Appreciation Day.

FC Tucson captain Kerron Fox said, “I can’t thank the fans, the community and the support we’ve had all year.” I’m really enjoying the energy and the energy we’ve created for our home games.”

FC Tucson’s points helped them avoid a three-season losing streak.

The result ended forward Madison’s five-game losing streak, but nine games without a win.

FC Tucson outscored Madison 13-12 overall, having the most possessions from 55.2% to 44.8%, as well as going 5-2 in shooting on target.

“Forward Madison is a good team. They are well coached and play very well on defense. They caused us problems and frustrated us in the first and second halves,” Fox said. “In the end he was 10th to 9th. We wanted to get ahead of them and they wanted to stay ahead of us, so in the end It was a tough match and in the end he ended up in a 1-1 draw.”
