Idyllwild Arts announced that indigenous peoples day celebration October 10th at the Idyllwild Campus. The free event included a public program that creatively and thoughtfully celebrates the many contributions indigenous peoples make to humanity.
The morning’s events included AlterNATIVE, an “edutainment” compendium of American history through the eyes of an indigenous people, a noted musician and educator. Idyllwild Arts made their debut during the afternoon and evening portions of the event Erica Hirschwill present an opening reception and artist talk for his evocative solo exhibition, Moving in the Borderlands.

Harrsch is an acclaimed New York-based contemporary Mexican visual artist with indigenous roots in Mexican tribal communities. Through a variety of media such as installation, photography, projection, mixed media and performance, this exhibition explores the concept of hospitality in the context of cross-border movements, knowledge systems, cultural identities, communities and the intersectional separation of civilizations. The exhibition runs through October 27th at the Parks Exhibition Center on the Idyllwild Arts campus.
A public art installation of four site-specific murals was also exhibited for event attendees.
